DLIELC COMPETES IN CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA
(POSTED ON 24 aUG 10)
|
Two DLI entries participated in this year’s Lackland Regatta at the Warhawk swimming pool. The Staff’s entry was from the Information Technology (IT) section and the Philippines Students’ , headed by Maj Duque, represented our student body. DLI competed against 20 other boats and did very well against them, both teams placing in the top six.. In the intra-organizational competition, the student beat out the staff by a nose. All the boats were made of Cardboard and Duct Tap, capable of holding a crew of two—Captain and 1st Mate. The Regatta, or race, was rated on four categories: Organizational involvement, cheers, boat creativity, and speed. Both vessels were well crafted with none obtaining any water after a 25-year run, which could not be said about seven others that did not make it past 10 yards. Everyone had a good time with good music, games, and free food thanks to the Base Services department who hosted the Summer Festival.
